Should I use WordPress or Custom CMS?

If you work in the web branch and more exactly in the blogging niche, it is sure that you know what WordPress is. Fairly known as the world’s leading blogging platform, WordPress is great both for the experts and newbies when it comes to blogging. But if you’re a web developer or you have a higher budget to expend there’s always an alternative: customized CMS. WordPress is the world’s no.1 blogging platform. It has become very large that it has a whole world revolving around it, starting from users to core developers, theme designers and plugin devices.

Why should you go for WordPress?

Free & easy to use

Everything from installing to posting or changes to your site’s look is easily supported by WordPress’ great user interface on your admin dashboard. It offers wonderful customization options with just a few clicks. If you’re thinking of your budget, choosing WordPress over a customized CMS that’s most likely going to make a hole in your pockets is the right decision. Ever since its introduction few years ago, WordPress was offered free of charge.

Appearance change is easy

WordPress’ easy API offered by the core developers has started a whole new industry: the theme designing industry that’s running around the script. If you are new to this world and want a custom-built website, go for it.

Very stable & often updated

With an energetic core development team, running WordPress is perhaps the wisest decision to make when looking for a script. They offer hordes of updates to the CMS and these updates either bring new features or help fixing bugs and errors. WordPress will be very stable. It also has a good security, complications like XSS attacks or SQL injections are effortlessly blocked.

WordPress seems great, isn’t it? Fine, it really is. But this is a coding website so we’re going to go deeper than just its user interface and look.

Why should you go for custom CMS?

First of all, it is assumed that you have some medium knowledge of web development with languages like PHP & SQL. So the question is simple. You are a web developer and you want to start a blog. WordPress is obviously the first thought.

No custom installation

They won’t let you customize your installation. WordPress has thousands of functions included. But will you use every one of those? Undoubtedly not. Your site will be full of `mess` that will just remain idle, only making it sluggish. Use a custom CMS, get rid of needless features and just concentrate on what you want.

Site loading speed is poor

Again, WordPress will fill your database with huge number of data and queries, so your site will load very slowly. Get a weighty theme too and you will wind up with 10 seconds loading time.

Hacking is a pain

Why would you want to change a blog? Well, there could be numerous reasons: either you want a more social platform, have your content dragged into another page or whatever reason you have that is going to need some heavy hacking into the site. Word Press offers plugins and a good API documentation for it, but doing it it’s not simple. With your own customized CMS will, hacking will be a lot easier.

If you’ve just started web development we highly recommend you not to depend on custom CMS for a big project. You may wind up with some security problems and have your site cracked, have your data stolen or even deleted.
